PluginButler for macOS
Find, inspect and safely uninstall your audio plug-ins. PluginButler scans your Mac for Audio Unit, VST, VST3, AAX, CLAP and RTAS plug-ins and shows them as products, not a pile of duplicate files, so you can see what you have and reclaim the space you do not need.
- Automatic system-wide scan of user and system plug-in folders
- Every format of a plug-in consolidated into a single product
- Safe uninstall: confirmation first, and items go to the Trash
- Space Saver: reclaim disk space from redundant plug-in formats
- Desired-state profiles to keep several Macs consistent
Coming soon.
Features
A busy music-production Mac can end up with the same plug-in installed in three or four formats, spread across user and system folders, with no easy way to see it all or to remove it cleanly. PluginButler puts it in one window.
- Discover and browse: A system-wide scan finds plug-ins in the standard macOS locations for your user account and the whole system, grouped by manufacturer.
- Multi-format support: Audio Unit, VST, VST3, AAX, CLAP and RTAS.
- Product-centric view: The format variants of one plug-in are consolidated into a single product.
- Type detection and filtering: Instrument, effect, EQ, reverb, delay and more, with search by name, manufacturer, format or type.
- Detail inspector: Developer, manufacturer website, version, size on disk, install locations, every installed format, and Reveal in Finder.
- Safe uninstall: Every removal shows a confirmation naming the product and total size. Plug-ins are moved to the Trash, never permanently deleted, and system-folder items are flagged.
- Space Saver: Choose which formats to keep and see how much space the redundant ones would reclaim. A product's only copy is never removed.
- Desired-state profiles: Build profiles of the plug-ins a machine should have, then check each Mac against them for drift. Profiles are portable between machines.
Distribution
PluginButler needs to read and manage files in your Library folders, so it is not designed for the Mac App Store sandbox. Details on how to get it will be published here at launch.
